A Classic Victorian for Victoria

Victoria came to us with a simple request, blanket her son Oliver's room in a wallpaper that would warm up the space and stay true to the era of the home. Victoria did not want a traditionally masculine or childlike space for her son. She wanted warmth. We used pattern drenching, color and texture to create the base in which she could then layer in her son's dinosaurs, blocks, books and other playthings. The goal of the room was to be a cozy escape in which he could explore his interests without being overwhelmed. She wanted to steer clear of the sterile feeling of mass-produced particle board furniture and plastic toys in overwhelming colors. This is not to say that these things do not exist in her home, she just wanted to limit them in Oliver's space.

We chose the sage print Osterley Toile by Lark Manor. The Osterley Toile wallpaper gives the most beautiful Victorian vibes with its glass greenhouses and fountains throughout (think The Phipp's Conservatory). Though blue is typically thought of as an ideal color for a boy's room, we chose green because blue would be cold in tone and the opposite of our client's request for warmth.

This design can be found on Wayfair at an excellent price. The reason we mention this is because it is very easy to find gorgeous wallcoverings at $10+ per square feet however, sometimes that is not in our client's budget. It becomes a welcome challenge to source a beautiful paper that still feel luxurious within reach for our clients. The impact wallpaper has on making a house feel like home is incomparable and can be accessible to everyone with enough research and determination. That is the kind of service we aspire to bring you at Pittsburgh Wallpaper Company. We are your design consultation, sourcing and installation team.
