Commonly Asked Questions

At Pittsburgh Wallpaper Company we treat each project as a custom experience with its own needs and nuances. However, we understand that our clients feel best when they know what to expect from a wallpaper project so here are some answers to commonly asked questions we receive at PWC.

What is the cost per foot to install wallpaper?

Not factoring in prep time, we charge $2-3/sq foot to install standard paper in basic rooms. For more elaborate projects with extensive architectural detail, vaulted ceilings, room wraps, etc we charge $5+ per sq foot.

What prep is needed to install wallpaper?

Your walls will be assessed during our initial inspection to determine if the texture and condition of your walls are conducive for wallpaper adhesion. Some walls need to be skim coated before install, while some walls need scraping and sanding and some are ready for primer. All walls need to be primed with a water-based primer before the wallpaper can be hung. All of these factors will affect the cost of the project depending on the time and materials it takes to prep the site.

What kind of adhesives do you prefer to work with?

We prefer to work with non-pasted paper so we can ensure the type and quality of paste is appropriate for our clients. Pre-pasted or peel-and-stick options are also considered if they are sourced through reputable wallpaper companies. We reserve the right to turn down a project if the quality of the paper will degrade the result of the project or reflect poorly on our craftsmanship.

Is it worth ordering custom runs from companies such as Spoonflower?

Custom orders from higher end companies are always highly recommended as you have greater insurance that the pattern will precisely repeat and match. Custom printed runs also ensure that you do not get color variation that can occur when wallpaper is printed in different batches.
